On one of my websites I listed product drawings for customers to download. These drawings were offered in different formats: PDF, Solidworks, Parasolid, DXF and others.
In chrome everything worked fine, but IE insisted to open several of the files as if they are text files (.SLDPRT, .EASM). In order to force Internet Explorer to open a download dialog all I needed to do was to add the following lines to the .htaccess file located at the download folder:
